HP Merges 3Com to Challenge Cisco

by admin on Nov.19, 2009, under Pass4sure News

On Nov. 12, HP and 3Com declared that they have reached an agreement under which HP will purchase 3Com for $2.7billion, or $7.90 per share in cash. The deal is anticipated to be closed at the first half 2010 for the approval of shareholders.

From the acquisition wave in 2009, we can draw a conclusion that IT giants are searching a way to break from the limitations of single products by combination.

The combination of HP and 3Com is for the purpose of“accelerating the execution of our Converged Infrastructure strategy and bringing disruptive change to the networking industry”, according to the Dave Donatelli, executive vice president and general manager, Enterprise Servers and Networking.

The long rumored alliance of Cisco, EMC, and VMware was just confirmed on Nov 3 this month. The partnership of HP and 3Com may be a good answer to the remarks of John Chambers – “ HP is the enemy.”
