HP Merges 3Com to Challenge Cisco

by admin on Nov.19, 2009, under Pass4sure News

On Nov. 12, HP and 3Com declared that they have reached an agreement under which HP will purchase 3Com for $2.7billion, or $7.90 per share in cash. The deal is anticipated to be closed at the first half 2010 for the approval of shareholders.

From the acquisition wave in 2009, we can draw a conclusion that IT giants are searching a way to break from the limitations of single products by combination.

The combination of HP and 3Com is for the purpose of“accelerating the execution of our Converged Infrastructure strategy and bringing disruptive change to the networking industry”, according to the Dave Donatelli, executive vice president and general manager, Enterprise Servers and Networking.

The long rumored alliance of Cisco, EMC, and VMware was just confirmed on Nov 3 this month. The partnership of HP and 3Com may be a good answer to the remarks of John Chambers – “ HP is the enemy.”

by admin on Oct.30, 2009, under Pass4sure News

Recently Sun Microsystems said that it plans to cut up to 3,000 jobs worldwide over the next 12 months because of the delay in the acquisition of the company by Oracle.

The acquisition announced in April has been approved by the SEC in August, but halted by EU last month in consideration of anti-competition.

The layoff plan due to the delay of acquisition will cost Sun from $75 million to $125 million over the next year, which will inevitably effect Oracle’s financials as well. Therefore, people are worrying about there would be more cuts of jobs once the merger is closed.
